What We Are Up Against

Tomorrow July 9th from 4 to 6pm at 7 Stages Theater in Little Five Points, we are going to try something new. It’s called an Activism Cabaret, and it’s a way to be entertained, inspired, and connected to action all at the same time. Tix at http://bit.ly/whatweareupagainst

Yesterday I posted about one of our amazing organization recipients, Team Libertad, a non profit that helps Asylum seekers, and today I want you to learn about another of our recipients, SnapCo (Solutions not Punishments Collaborative).

SnapCo. is a strategic, visionary collective of Black, queer and trans community builders that originally came together in 2013 to successfully oppose the Atlanta City Council’s attempt to banish sex workers from the city. In the decade following that initial victory, SnapCo. has continued to change lives and make history through their organizing, community building, mutual aid, participatory research, and direct action. By directly supporting and cultivating leadership within Atlanta’s Black queer and trans community, they are protecting Black queer and trans lives in the present while building power and changing systems to allow all people to flourish in the future.

Now let’s check out our truly amazing lineup!

The Candybox Revue redefines Burlesque entertainment by challenging society’s perspective on what is worthy of being represented onstage. Burlesque is a vital, vibrant, and powerful art. It is theatrical, political, funny, and entertaining. Our mission is to provide quality entertainment, showcase artistic and individual diversity, and support heartfelt causes.
Lauren Jones is a standup comedian from Atlanta, GA. She produces the Trans Talent Show, a quarterly open mic dedicated to making space for trans artists.
Sydni Michelle Perry is an actress, director, singer, and writer. Throughout her creative journey, she has found joy and fulfillment from collaborating with her creative peers, exploring her vast imagination, and not letting doubt and fear keep her from moving forward and discovering all the possibilities of who she can be and what she can do. Feel free to follow her @thelegendarysydniperry on IG! She’s got some pretty awesome content on there!
Moving Our Stories uses participatory dance and embodied memory mapping to amplify the lived experiences, histories, and bodily knowledge of Black women as a strategy towards collective liberation and restoration for all.
Lamont Loyd Sims is a meditation coach, community organizer, and spoken word artist that works to end all forms of oppression.
Celeste Miller is a solo performer, ensemble choreographer, educator and animator of dance-based community projects. Whether making, performing, teaching, curating or witnessing she explores art experiences that give us the courage to participate in the world as response-able critter and kin.

The show is going to be amazing! Hope to see you there! http://bit.ly/whatweareupagainst
